We’re not just a gym. We’re your gym.
Riverside Family Fitness was founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to a premium fitness environment, one that’s welcoming, well-equipped, and rooted in genuine community.
About riverside family fitness
Our story
Riverside Family Fitness opened its doors in 2015 with nothing more than a dream and a deep passion for helping others. Joey brought his love for health and fitness, along with a genuine commitment to improving people’s quality of life through knowledge and guidance. Julie complemented that vision with her natural talent for business and organization. Together, they built more than just a gym, they created a welcoming space where individuals and families can grow stronger, healthier, and more confident every day.
From day one, the mission was clear: to create a fitness experience unlike anything in Windsor-Essex. Not a high-volume franchise, and not a niche studio designed for just one type of athlete, but something more thoughtful, more complete. A boutique fitness experience where every member is known by name, every goal is taken seriously, and the sense of community extends far beyond the walls of the facility.
Today, Riverside Family Fitness stands as one of the region’s most distinguished fitness communities. Our all-inclusive membership reflects a philosophy of value without compromise, bringing together service, expertise, and amenities in a way few clubs can match.
Within our 15,000 sq. ft. facility, members have access to premium Panatta and Atlantis equipment, an 88-degree heated pool, dry saunas and steam rooms, ECE-certified childcare, a shake bar, a state-of-the-art 3D body composition scanner, and a team of dedicated specialists committed to individual progress, many of whom have been with us for years.
While our equipment, technology, and amenities define the space, it’s the people who define the experience. It’s the member who arrives each morning because this is their connection. The new parent who finds 45 uninterrupted minutes to reset. The individual recovering from surgery, guided by a medical exercise specialist, often before they even know to ask for one. And it’s Joey on the floor, taking the time to learn your name, and genuinely caring about your answer.
That’s the Riverside difference.
We’re proud to serve members across Windsor, LaSalle, Tecumseh, Amherstburg, Lakeshore, and the greater Essex County region. Whether you’re a competitive athlete, new to fitness, a parent, a senior, or simply ready for a fresh start, there is a place for you here.

Co-Founder | Head of Training & Vision | IFBB Pro Bodybuilder
Joey Flores
If you want to understand what Riverside Family Fitness stands for, start with Joey Flores.
Joey has been a competitive bodybuilder since 2003, earning his IFBB Pro card and competing on some of Canada’s most prestigious stages. In 2016, after more than a decade of dedication, he reached the pinnacle of his sport by capturing the Canadian National Bodybuilding Championship title and becoming an IFBB Professional. Achievements at this level are built on years of discipline, a deep understanding of human physiology, and an unwavering commitment to consistent progress, especially when results aren’t immediately visible.
What truly sets Joey apart isn’t just his credentials, it’s how deeply he cares. Whether you’re training directly with him or working with one of the coaches he’s mentored at Riverside, you’re never just a number or a membership. Your goals are personal to him, and he approaches them with the same commitment he’s built his career on.
Joey’s training philosophy is grounded in efficiency, science, and, above all, consistency. He believes that lasting progress, the kind that endures for years rather than weeks, comes from intelligent programming and showing up consistently, not from burnout. His 30-minute personal training sessions are a testament to this approach: focused, strategic, and highly effective. Clients manage their own warm-up and cool-down, ensuring that every minute with Joey is dedicated to purposeful coaching.
Joey’s coaching is driven by data as much as experience. Using the gym’s 3D body scanning technology alongside proven methods like the Harris-Benedict formula, he creates precise, individualized roadmaps for every client. From calculating caloric needs to tracking changes in body fat and muscle mass, every decision is informed by real metrics, allowing programming to be adjusted in real time. No guesswork. No generic apps. Just a strategy built specifically for your body.
Joey also serves as a connector, bringing together a diverse team of specialists, including medical exercise professionals, weight loss coaches, and rehabilitation experts. He takes the time to understand each client’s needs before carefully matching them with the right coach. He calls it ensuring the right fit for success.
Beyond the gym floor, Joey is committed to developing the next generation of fitness professionals, actively mentoring his coaching team. His vision for Riverside is intentional: to build a dedicated membership base, not a high-volume facility filled with rarely seen sign-ups, but a focused, engaged community where every member is known and valued.
At its core, Joey’s approach is about long-term return. The investment you make in your health today pays dividends you can’t predict and can’t price. By embracing an 80/20 lifestyle-dialled in most of the time, flexible when it counts-you build something sustainable. Not perfection, but preparedness for whatever life throws your way.

Co-Founder | Director of Operations
Julie Flores
Every exceptional gym has someone behind the scenes making sure the experience matches the promise, day in and day out. At Riverside Family Fitness, that person is Julie Flores.
Julie co-founded Riverside alongside Joey in 2015, taking on the formidable task of building a boutique fitness operation from the ground up. From finances and staffing to member experience and community relationships, she has shaped every detail, including the countless unseen decisions that define whether a gym feels exceptional or interchangeable. She has built it all, and she has done so with remarkable care and precision.
To describe Julie’s role at Riverside in purely operational terms would miss the point. What she has helped shape is a culture that shows up in the everyday details. On a typical morning or busy class day, members are greeted by name, the facility is well kept, childcare is run by qualified professionals, and the juice bar feels calm and welcoming. None of this happens by chance. It reflects a simple standard Julie has held since 2015: that the member experience should be intentional, consistent, and thoughtfully maintained.
Julie’s hiring philosophy helps shape the culture at Riverside. Certifications matter, but they are not the only consideration. She places equal value on warmth, professionalism, and a natural ability to make people feel comfortable and welcome. Over time, this has contributed to a team with unusually long tenures in an industry known for turnover. Many staff have been with Riverside for years, which reflects the kind of environment she has helped create.
Julie is also deeply committed to the gym’s physical evolution. The ongoing renovation program reflects her belief that members deserve a space they are genuinely proud to come to. Premium amenities are not an extra. They are the baseline.
Julie is also an avid fitness enthusiast, and one of the most meaningful examples of her connection to health and fitness came after a major surgery. Her recovery was faster and more complete than initially expected, and her medical team noted that her pre-existing level of physical fitness and mental resilience played a significant role.
What Julie has built at Riverside is a gym that feels like home. Operations run smoothly in the background, staff tend to stay for years, and members continue to return because it becomes part of their routine and their lives. Over time, that kind of consistency has shaped something steady and familiar in Windsor’s fitness community.
